Donn Bennett and Joe PallardYou never know who’s going to walk through the door at Donn Bennett Drum Studio. Joe Pollard, the inventor of the SynDrum, Duraline drumheads and Duraline drumheads paid us a surprise visit this morning. He was in town for his son’s graduation. SynDrums were the first electronic drums. They paved the way for all of the electronic drums that have followed. Syndrums caused a revolution in recorded music and were heard on literally thousands of records in the late 70s and early 80s. They were extremely popular in disco music and practically defined the disco sound. Joe had some great stories about working with drummers like Hal Blaine, Jim Keltner and Keith Moon. He got out of the drum business to pursue his other passion, old Checker taxi cabs. He owns over 200 old Checker cabs and leases to the film industry. Chances are if you see an old Checker cab in any movie it’s one of Joe Pollard’s fleet
