Joe Perry, Brad Whitford’s Aerosmith Terry Hanley, Music Man 212-HD 212-HD Tuning Room Amp, Authenticated! (#160) $2,995.00

Joe Perry and Brad Whitford’s Aerosmith Terry Hanley, Tuning Room Amp, Authenticated! (#160)

From the Brad Whitford Collection at Donn Bennett’s Drum Vault.

This amp was a custom “tuning room” amp built for Brad by the legendary Terry Hanely Audio. The amp is a drastically “Frankenstiened” MusicMan 212-HD combo amp built as a multi purpose work station for Aerosmith’s tuning room in the 1970s. The amp is specifically mentioned on page 375 of Joe Perry’s ROCKS My Life In And Out Of Aerosmith autobiography. “In the tuning room we used a Music Man 212-HD. We modified it by taking one of the speakers out so we could put tuners in the cabinet. We started with a Conn Strobe tuner and finally a Yamaha tuner. The wood cover where the foot pedal was stored had a small mirror glued to the inside”. What on earth would the hardest partying band in the world possibly need a small mirror for? 🙂

The amp was customized by Boston based, Terry Hanely Audio Systems. When Aerosmith started headlining major venues in the 1970s the chose Terry Hanley Audio to run their sound. Brothers Bill and Terry Hanley are pioneering legends in the field of sound reinforcement. They are credited with bringing live sound reinforcement into the modern era. In the 1960s and 1970s. They ran sound for The Beatles at Shea Stadium and managed the sound reinforcement at the 1969 Woodstock Music Festival. They toured and ran sound with Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, Bob Marley and countless other top artists of the era. They are true icons in the field of sound reinforcement. Modern sound production would be what it is today with out the advances made by the Hanley brothers.

The amp currently does not work. It was mothballed decades ago and just recently uncovered in Aerosmith’s storage facility. It doesn’t power up and the tubes are missing. Right now, the amp is more of a historical rock n’ roll artifact than a functioning guitar amp. It’s being sold “as-is”.

Acquired directly from Brad Whitford. The amp is identified by an Aerosmith inventory tag. It includes a certificate of authenticity signed by Brad Whitford.

Ships from Seattle, WA. $180 US shipping. We will ship internationally.

Serious offers considered.
