John Densmore Played Ludwig 1968 Mod Orange 22,13,16,5×14 Supraphonic. Documented!!

On December 17, 2017  Robby Krieger, John Densmore and Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic performed a set at the Founders Award ceremony at the Museum of Pop Culture in Seattle where the Doors were being honored. Doors drummer John Densmore played this vintage 1968 Ludwig Mod Orange drum set with a 5×14″ Ludwig Supraphonic snare drum during the performance. The Doors logo head was custom made for the Founders day performance. Densmore played a Ludwig 20,12,14 set in the identical color and configuration during his tenure with the Doors from 1967-1969.

The Museum of Pop Culture rented from the drum set for this performance from Guitar Maniacs, a local vintage guitar shop in Tacoma, WA and includes a copy of the rental receipt. Serial #s 572114, 572683, 570534, 559006.

The set is in great shape but shows some fading and normal signs of wear. No modifications or notable damage. The photos depict the condition accurately. For reference, I’ve included a photo of the floor tom from John Densmore’s original Doors set (very last photo with wooden floor). You can see the condition and fade is nearly identical to this set.

The set includes photos from the Museum of Pop Culture performance, the rental receipt and a COA signed by the seller.

See this set in action in the video below. Also, see the video of Tom Robbin’s reading of his 1967 review of the Door’s first Seattle performance. He gives a great description of Densmore’s playing.
