Bryan Hitt used this updated Slingerland Radio King set for REO tours and recording in the early-mid 1990s. It can be heard on the bands “Building The Bridge” CD and seen in the live photos and video below. Hitt is a long time vintage drum collector and was eager to put his vintage ’47 Radio Kings back to work performing with REO. Not many drummers would subject a drum set built in the ’40s to the pounding they would take touring with REO, but these Slingerland RKs were built to last and still have lot’s of music in them. Hitt updated the set with a new Blue/White marine pearl finish, RIMS mounts and modern Tama hardware. The edges were redone and trued by Bill Detamore at Pork Pie drums. All of the hardware in the photos is included. Cymbals are not included.
The drums look and sound spectacular. The photos don’t lie. There are some minor flaws in the finish and chrome that are visible in the photos, but nothing that’s going to stop this kit from singing like a canary.
The set also includes an original REO touring trap case, a pair of Hitt’s stage used signature sticks and an original copy of the tour program from REO’s 2007 “Find Your Way Home” world tour. The program features photos of Hitt playing these Radio Kings and can be signed by all current members the band as soon as the current touring restrictions are lifted.
The set will ship form California. Local pickup is fine. Plan on roughly $500-$800 US freight shipping. We will ship internationally.
