WFL 1940s Wartime Victorious Drumset Project, 26,16,13,11 $699.00, AMAZING!!
The Victorious line of drums were Ludwig’s contribution to the war effort of World War II. Manufacturers were limited to making any product with more than 10% metal parts. The patriotic crew at Ludwig came up with this ingenious design that delivers a fully tunable drum with almost all wooden parts. The lugs are made of rosewood, the shells and internal tensioning mechanism are made of maple. Each drum is tensioned by turning a nut on the outside of the drum that pushes the ends of a maple slat attached to an internal hoop against the inside of a calf head that is held in place by a fixed wooden external hoop. If that sounds complicated it’s actually pretty simple and easy to understand if you look at the photos.
OK. I admit it. Sometimes I take on more projects than I can handle. I really thought I’d get to this set in my “spare time”. HA!! Haven’t had any of that since I was about 14. This set is ALMOST ready to play but needs a few parts that any good woodworker could easily make. The 26,13 and 16 are pretty much ready to go. The 11 tom needs the internal slats and one lug. You get everything you see in the photos including the calf heads.
The white marine pearl finish is in excellent shape and virtually unfaded. Some of the photos look fairly yellow due to the low light photos. The set is actually very white and evenly faded all around as you see in most of the photos. Ultra-rare WFL “peel-n-stick” aluminum badges.
This is going to be a stunning piece of American music history once some ambitious drummer steps up to return this beauty to it’s original glory! I will ship internationally.
