Tama Bell Brass, Superstar Mastercraft, Original 1980s 6.5×14 Snare Drum From Sound City Studio. Excellent, $3,995
This drum created the RIM-shot heard round the world. In the early 1980s Tama developed the Bell Brass snare. It was cast, like a bell, to create a seamless, solid brass shell. The result was an extremely powerful and sensitive snare drum that led to dozens of imitators. The Bell Brass snare has proven itself on countless records and has become a “secret weapon” of top record producers for many years. This particular drum came from the legendary Sound City Studio and has been played by many of the world’s greatest drummers including Dave Grohl. Ironically, Grohl played the exact same model snare when he recorded Nirvana’s “Nevermind” album at Sound City in 1991. To be clear, This drum is identical to the drum Grohl used on “Nevermind”, but is not the same drum. You can hear Grohl playing this actual snare on “Doing The Most” by RDGLDGRN recorded at Sound City Studio.
The drum is in excellent condition and sounds amazing. The chrome is clean and shiny. Everything works. The pad on the muffler has been removed. otherwise all original with no modifications or damage. You can see some slight patina in the shell but overall it looks near new. Everything works great and the sound speaks for itself. The photos depict the condition accurately. Serial # 15407997.
