Ludwig 1930s Black Beauty, 5×14 Buffed to Brass, Tommy Dorsey Band! Immaculate!! $2,895.00
This 1930s Ludwig Black Beauty is an absolutely stunning drum with a great history. The drum belonged to a mid-western drummer named John Lindbloom who at one point played with The Tommy Dorsey band. Lindbloom passed several years ago. We received this drum from Linbloom’s son who recalls his father’s stories about playing with the Tommy Dorsey band as well as other big bands of his era. The oral history is the only documentation of the the drum’s provenance we have. The drum has been meticulously buffed down to the original brass shell and hardware without removing any of the original engraving. Whoever did this restoration knew what they were doing and did an amazing job. The extraordinary condition is very visible in the photos.
The are no notable flaws. There is a minuscule indentation around one of the tube lugs. If you look very closely you might be able to see it in the photos, otherwise no damage or imperfections. The photos depict the condition very accurately. The original black finish can still be seen on the inside of the drum.
Here’s you opportunity to own one of the greatest snare drums ever made as well as a great piece of music history.
