Gretsch Original 50s Peacock Sparkle, 20,13,16 with 4×14 Max Roach RARE!! $6,995
The Gretsch 1950s Peacock Pearl finish is one the most rarest and most beautiful drum finishes ever made. It was only made for a short time. It is considered among collectors to be a “Holy Grail” item. This stunning original 20×14, 13×9 and 16×16 3 ply set is in absolutely spectacular condition. The finish is virtually un-faded (see the photos of the bare shells). All original, no damage or modifications, nothing missing or broken. Calf heads top and bottom. Original inlays. Original stick chopper hoops all around. Clear interiors. Very minor pitting and scratches on chrome.
The 4×14 Max Roach snare was acquired separately. The snare had been modified with a new throw off and butt plate. The snare was restored to near original condition by drum restoration expert Jack Lawton. Lawton is considered to be the tops in the trade. He expertly filled the the non-original holes and capped them with plugs of original Peacock Sparkle finish. The resulting repairs are nearly invisible from the outside of the drum (see pics). The holes on the throw off side are also hidden by the throw off. It is inspiring to see such an extraordinarily rare and beautiful drum like this returned to close to it’s original condition and paired with such a beautiful matching set.
This is a rare opportunity to own one of the rarest and most beautiful Gretsch drum sets ever made. Photos depict the condition of the set accurately.
