Elvin Jones’s ’78 Tama/Camco Complete Drum Set, Authenticated. $11,995.00
In the early 1970s Elvin Jones was invited by the Tama drum company to endorse their newly acquired Camco drum line. Elvin’s legendary reputation made him the perfect representative for Camco, who were marketing themselves to a predominantly jazz playing audience. Elvin can be seen playing this set on the cover of the 1979 Camco catalog (included) which features an “Elvin Jones Signature Set” (see photos).
This set was owned and used by Elvin Jones from the late 1970s through the early 1980s. The set consists of 8×12, 9×13, 16×16, 18×18, 14×18 bass drum and 5×14 snare drum. The toms and bass drum all have the Camco Made-In-USA cloud badge. Snare drum has the next generation Tama/Camco tombstone-style badge which appeared on the Tama/Camco drums from this point forward. The set is in excellent condition. The heads are well played, some on both top and bottom. There is a small split in the head of the 18″ floor tom. Bass drum includes the original Camco, Elvin Jones Jazz Machine logo drum head. The finishes and chrome have a few minor nicks and scuff are otherwise excellent. Nothing broken, missing or altered. The photos depict the condition of the set accurately. The set is a mahogany stain. The shells of the bass and toms have reinforcing rings. The snare does not. Also included are the high hat stand, bass pedal and snare stand, all used by Elvin, as well as a complete set of hard cases stenciled with “Elvin Jones Jazz Machine”.
